Teaching sound biblical doctrine. We will grow our youth ministry by teaching our students to search the Scriptures and look to God for the answers to life’s problems, doing so by teaching them to apply Scriptures for:
- Head Knowledge: That they may be firm in their faith and well-versed in Scripture, in order that they may not be swayed by the lies of the world and the enemy, and fully equipped to defend their faith to others.
- Heart Knowledge: That they may take what they have learned from Scripture and apply it to their own lives, trusting in Christ alone for salvation and being rooted by a love for God, for Christ, and for his Church.
- Hand Knowledge: That they may take their love, faith, and joy found in Christ and extend it to others within the community, in both special acts of service and in their everyday lives.
Discipling personally and consistently. We will grow our youth ministry by engaging in one-on-one discipleship with each and every student. Each year, the youth pastor and volunteers ought to select 1-2 students who they will disciple by:
- Meeting/keeping in touch with on a regular basis. Disciplers ought to invest time and energy into the life of the student, asking about their lives and developing a relationship with them.
- Advising and instructing them in their walk with the Lord. Disciplers ought to play an active role in the spiritual life of the student, encouraging them to:
- Trust in God for salvation, provision, and sanctification, coming to God in prayer and looking to Scripture for guidance.
- Put off the old self and put on the new self, continuing to mortify the sinful flesh and put on godliness and holy living, bearing fruits in keeping with repentance.
- Guiding them into a role of discipleship. As the discipler continues to encourage and grow the student, they ought to encourage them to practice discipleship in their friends, by inviting friends to church/youth events, sharing their faith with their friends and family and discipling and encouraging other students in their walk with the Lord.
